Dear Dancers,

Our Club Rosters are ready!!  I will distribute them at the July 26th dance to those members that attend.  Then,
I will mail the rest of them out over the weekend.

It’s time to recruit for Fall Lessons.  I will have the Yard Signs at the July 26th Dance and business cards for distribution.

Come on out to the ballgame!  Monday, August 19th is COCDC night at the Columbus Clippers.  And it’s Dime A Dog night! Tickets are just $6.50.  You can purchase them by clicking this link:  There are only 75 tickets available, and nearly half of them are sold already! Game time is 6:35 pm. Meet no later than 5:45 pm at the main entrance to pick up your tickets. Jason Raleigh will be in attendance and will call a tip for everyone to earn their “Baseball Game” dangle!  (Council President, Pat Jones, is working with the Clippers to see if they’ll let us do a demo during the 7th Inning Stretch!)  Come and have a fun night out with your fellow dancers. Wear your club or council shirts for a night of promoting square dancing!

I would like to take a moment to promote the Fusion Square Dance, on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Eastpointe Church in Blacklick. This is an opportunity for Eastern and Western Square Dancers to meet and dance. Maybe we can recruit some Eastern Dancers to Western!!  Jason Raleigh and Sean Fen are calling and there will be a live band.  Cost is $10/person if you buy tickets on line; $12 at the door. NOW is the time to register for the Single Square Dancers USA 49th Dance-A-Rama which is coming up this Labor Day weekend, Save $5.00 by registering before the price increases on Aug 1 (from $50 per person to $55 per person). Also, be sure to book your room at the hotel by Aug 7 to be assured of the special pricing. It is easier and more fun to be at the host hotel. To cut down on expenses, you may want to contact our roommate locator, Laurie Steward at or 507-685-4476 (H) or 507-210-6507(C). The cost of the room is the same for one to four people.
We’re excited to be Alabama Bound! Single Square Dancers USA (SSDUSA) is going where we have never gone before! Our event is being held at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham–The Wynfrey Hotel. The hotel is actually in Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham. The featured callers are Silver Eagle Recording Artists: Joe (Little Joe) Goins – TN, Tom Davis – OH, Greg Hatmaker – TN, and Gene Aldridge – TN. The cuers will be Robbie Carrington – TN and Diane Martin-Hamilton – AL, and they will also lead some line dances. Our Trail In dance is on Thursday evening, August 29th, at the host hotel, with Joe Goins and Tom Davis calling and Robbie Carrington and Diane Martin-Hamilton cueing. The DAR itself is August 30 to September 1, 2019.
We had to cancel the tours originally planned for Friday and Saturday, but we still have two great tours: the Changing Face of Birmingham on Thursday, Aug 29, 2019 and the Mystery Dangle Tour on Sunday, Sept 1. Although the tour deadline has passed, we will continue to accept reservations for these two tours until the buses are filled. It would be a shame to come to Birmingham and not take advantage of the local points of interest. Fred and I are signed up for both tours and are looking forward to all of the new things there will be to see and do, along with the dancing.
We hope you will plan to join us in Alabama and that you will invite all of your dance friends to join you there. We need your help to get the word out about all the fun we have. Just look at what we have to offer! We have a great line up of callers and cuers. None of the dancing will be on carpet. There will be square dancing programmed for you whether you dance Mainstream, Plus, DBD, A1 or A2. There will be rounds from levels II through V. Also, there will be line dancing. All of the halls are on the same floor of the hotel, so if you stay at the host hotel, you will be close to the action.
Our registration forms are available on our flyer table. Also you can go to to obtain a form. All square and round dancers are welcome! Be sure to mark your calendars now for the 49th Dance-A-Rama on Labor Day weekend! See you in Alabama!

Our official count of membership is 33; that is 32 renewals and one new member.  As mentioned earlier, I will be distributing the 2019-2020 Club Roster at tonight’s dance.
Our Summer Fun Dance on July 12th with Ed Laudenschlager had a great turnout!! There were 40 dancers and we got 5 squares on the floor for one tip; the rest of the evening, there were 4 squares every time.  Though we did not have any New Graduates, we had 4 couples of newer dancers attend.  Everyone had a fun evening. We collected $155 for Council’s choice of charity:  Ronald McDonald House. Council will reimburse the club for our caller and rent expenses.
We had a great time on June 28th at our Summer in the City Dance.  40 guests and 15 members came to dance to Ed Pabst and Chuck Berry.  A lot of dancers saw my request to wear Black and White, so the attendees all looked very nice! We had 5 squares on the floor all evening.  Fun dancing everyone!

This year Orbiting Squares will offer three plus level “Refresher Workshop” sessions that will be held on Aug 8, 15 and 22, from 7 to 9 PM at the Gahanna Community Congregational Church. Instructor: Mark Johnson. $5 per person per class. This is a great way to freshen up your skills and get ready for all of the dances and classes this fall.

PEG CURRY – A gentle lady and great cook

Peg came to dancing in later life.  That never held her back from being very active in the life of our young, growing singles club.  She hosted board meetings in her warm, cozy home and rarely missed a dance or convention.

I came to know her gentle personality when we car-pooled to Chicago for a Labor Day Singles Weekend Convention.  During our 6+ hour drive she shared about her breast cancer surgery which in the 1970’s was rarely shared outside family.  I learned a lot from Peg on that trip and during her remaining years.  Here’s one of her recipes from the 1980 Bucks & Does Cookbook (exactly as it appeared there).  We loved it.

1 18 1/2 oz. yellow cake mix
1 3-3/4 oz. pkg instant vanilla pudding
2 8 oz. pkg Philadelphia cream cheese
1 9 oz. carton prepared whipped topping
1 16 oz. can crushed pineapple drained
1 c milk
1 c pineapple juice
1/2 c chopped nuts

Mix cake as directed on box.  Bake on sheet cake pan (jelly roll) for 20 min. at 350 degrees.  Mix cream cheese and pudding with one cup milk and one cup pineapple juice with electric mixer.  Add pineapple & mix.  Spread on cool cake.  Cover with whipped topping.  Sprinkle with nuts.

Hi Everyone!

Well, summer has definitely arrived and I am not a fan of heat. When you read this I will have gone to an even hotter state but I have granddaughters to spoil and horses to ride.

Thank you for bringing goodies to our last dance;  it’s always nice to see something to snack on after a tip. Don’t forget we have a dance July 26 and we’ll be dancing to Dave Stuthard with Sue Powell cuing. This is our Root Beer Float dance so come enjoy a great summer treat, good friends and a fun caller.

Stay cool and hydrated and I’ll see you in a square.
