We had a very nice time on February 22nd with our Cherry Cook-off and Dance. There were 13 entries into the contest and everyone enjoyed all of them! The most votes went to the Purple Salad, made by Marcia Taylor and second place was a tie: chocolate cherry cake and cherry pecan gems. We only had two prizes, and we got lucky… both items were brought by the same person: Diana Kovityn!! We had 33 guests and 17 members come to eat and dance to Gary Kincade and Chuck Berry. This dance was sponsored by COCDC and was free to everyone. Nine New Dancers were there for all the fun. There were 5-6 squares on the floor all evening. Fun dancing everyone!
|The Central Ohio Corporation of Dance Clubs (Council) held its regular meeting on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Some of the main points discussed were:|
· President Pat Jones thanked the other Board members for all their help over the past year.
· The proposed budget for 2019-20 was discussed; it will be voted on at the May meeting.
· There will be a special meeting of Council on March 21 to discuss the Honoree process.
· The Marketing and Recruitment Committee will meet before the special meeting.
· The State Convention this year will have a panel for new cuers & one on promotion of square dancing. The price for the Convention is $35.
· Next year’s Convention will be sponsored by the Cincinnati council but will be held in Columbus. The following Convention will be sponsored by the Miami Valley council; they are looking for a site.
· Terri Ross reported that COCDC has been asked to provide a $50 raffle basket for this year’s Convention. She volunteered to make it; her offer was accepted.
· The next date when COCDC could sponsor a State Convention would be 2023. Council reps. will be e-mailed about starting to prepare.
· Nominating Committee: Nancy Swanberg & Joi Melvin solicited nominations for President and Secretary. Pat Jones and Terri Ross were willing to serve again. No new nominations were made; Pat and Terri were elected to serve two more years by acclamation.
· Old Business:
· Council sent a thank-you card and gift card to Rob Stampfli to thank him for his years of work supporting the Council website; he replied with an e-mail of thanks which was forwarded to Council members.
· The Pre-Snowball Potluck & Workshop was a success with 44 dancers, including nine new dancers; there were 4 squares. Council made $259 on the recycle sale.
· The new class schedule proposal committee will meet, tentatively on April 1st. Lynn LeMaster will chair this committee and call it “Lessons: out of the box.”
· New Business:
· The Pittsburgh Area Callers’ and Cuers’ Association wants to introduce itself to Central Ohio. To that end, there will be a “Resurrection Dance” on Sunday, April 14 (Palm Sunday) in Granville with PACCA callers and cuers; several local callers have joined. There will be alternating Mainstream & Plus tips, with rounds; the fee will be $8 at the door.
· There are no new callers or cuers in the area right now, so there will be no caller or cuer scholarship this year.
· Council decided to continue to produce the printed schedule for next season. Schedules are due to Velma Doyle by June 1.
· Council will vote on dues at the May meeting. Reps were asked if they should remain at $30.
· More women’s clothing is needed for Council’s recycle sales. The next sale is June 8 at Grove City’s Relay for Life dance.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:07 p.m. The next meeting of Council will be May 6th.

Spring has sprung!! Not sure about you but I don’t believe it. There have been too many snow storms in late March & April. I took my first mud face plant of the year. With all the mud & rain, I’m sure there will be more.
I want to remind y’all of our March 22 potluck/meeting. An email was sent out on the 19th asking for your attendance & food contribution for this important meeting. We will set up at 6, eat at 6:30 & dance at 7:30. If you have any questions, please contact a board member.
Enjoy the sun & I’ll see you on the 22.
