February 2019 Newsletter

February 2019 Newsletter

Dear Dancers,

Have you had a chance to go on-line and sign up for our club Newsletter electronically?  Many of you already get your Newsletter electronically, but it’s from an email list maintained by Sue Williams and Velma Doyle.  We need to direct you to our website so we can use the central site set up by Ray Owens, our Media Chair.

So, members, if you have not already done so, please go to , click “Links,” and select “Electronic Notifications.” Here, you can sign up for text messages in the pink section; and sign up for club Newsletter(s) in the blue section.

Election of Officers is coming very soon.  Our by-laws require us to announce the slate of nominees for office at two regular club dances prior to the election date.  The nomination process is open to the membership.  If you are interested in serving the club or want to nominate someone, please tell a Board Member.  Please have that person’s consent to nominate them.  We have two open positions: Treasurer and Media Chair, and would welcome nominees for these positions as well.

These announcements will occur at the January 25th dance and February 22nd dance.  Voting will take place at the March 22nd dance.  We will meet at 6:15 pm for a potluck dinner at the Gahanna Community Congregational Church, with our annual meeting to follow.  Please mark your calendars for this event.

So far, nominations for board positions are:

President: Lynn LeMasterHospitality Chair:Mike Idle
Past President:Susan KempCouncil Rep:Dave Van Dyk
Vice President:Sue WilliamsBanner Chair:Paulette Henry
Secretary:Mary BaileyMedia Chair:Open

Current Treasurer, Susan Kemp is stepping down, but is willing to take the vacant Past President position. The important duties of the Treasurer are handling the club checkbook and handling cash at the Sign-In Table during club dances. Very soon, we can accept credit card payments at dances!  Current Media Chair, Ray Owens, is stepping down, but is willing to continue as club webmaster.  Dave Van Dyk has agreed to chair the Nominating Committee as we search for replacements of the two vacancies.  Dave needs two club members to assist him.

As for me, I am willing to serve one more year as President to Bucks & Does Singles.  I served as President from 2010-11; and came back to this position June, 2015.  My, how time flies!!  We all need to be thinking of who to turn the club over to in May 2020.  I would then move to Past President position.

February 22, 2019 is our Free New Dancer Dance that COCDC is sponsoring.  Gary Kincade is calling and Chuck Berry is cueing.  We are having a Cherry Cook-off! Bring your favorite cherry dish. Cherry pie, cherry tarts, cherry cheese cake, cherry jello, cherry pork chops, cherry chicken salad… You get the idea!!  Come taste and vote for your favorite recipe; we will award two prizes.

Don’t forget our January 25th Dance will have a Baked Potato Bar!!  The club is supplying the baked potatoes, butter, sour cream, bacon, shredded cheese, and chives.  What other creative things can you bring??  Chili, sautéed mushrooms & onions, jalapeños, peppers, beans, taco meat, chopped ham??   Ed Laudenschlager is calling and Mark Johnson is cueing.  Also, we will recognize our Honoree, Mary Bailey, at this dance with cake!    Loaded baked potatoes and chocolate cake!  Yummmmm……

Wish these dancers a Happy Birthday when you see them in a square!

We had a very nice time on December 28th at our Year in Review Dance.  Scott Brown, his son, Shawn, and friend Lisa Minton all called for us, and Chuck Berry did his usual great job of cueing. There were 28 guests and 14 members, with 4 squares on the floor all evening. We had two out of state guests, Betsy from Tom Thumb Club, MD and Marion from Gold Rush Outlaws, PA.  The Food Table was wonderful again!  Thank-you again goes out to Lois for her bean soup and ham & potato casserole!  Fun dancing everyone!

Classes started back up on January 8, 2019.  Our New Dancers are enjoying the move into the Plus Calls.  But we need Angels!!   15 people have attended the last two classes; we need one more person for two squares!!  HELP!

I don’t know about y’all  but I am lovin the snow. I grew up in the snow belt and winter was full of ice skating, sledding and snowmobiles as well as fires and popcorn.

Thank you all for continuing to bring such a variety of food to our dances and for your friendliness and kindness to our visitors. Now that there’s snow and ice on the ground, be extra careful and please continue to help others carry items or help them to the door or their cars.

We have great members and y’all are very much appreciated.

Stay warm, drive safe and I’ll see you in a square.
