December 2018 Newsletter

Dear Dancers,

The Holidays have snuck up on us again!! Be sure to take some time for yourself and relax.  Be safe in your travels and remember to have fun!  Have a blessed and safe holiday.

Our 45th Yellow Rock Dance was a great success! We had 88 dancers in attendance and made over $300! Tom Davis did an awesome job calling and engaging the dancers with 7-8 squares on the floor every tip.  Phyllis had a floor full of Round Dancers!  The cake Susan bought was beautiful and nearly all eaten at the dance.  Thank you all for bringing goodies.  Our food table was wonderful!

The Executive Board chose to award the Club Yellow Rock Banner to Hi Timers; they have hosted three Charity dances this year: two for the church and one for Caller Tom Miller.  The club continues to grow new members under new leadership, Ed and Faye Laudenschlager. The Individual Yellow Rock Expert Award was given to Marcia Taylor for all her efforts in bringing dinner to the Food Table. She brings ‘Yellow Rocks’ for our tummies!!

The votes were tallied for our two Honoree Nominees, Mary Bailey and Ray Owens; and I am happy to announce that Mary Bailey had been chosen as Bucks & Does’ 2019 Honoree.  Both nominees have given a lot to our club!! We will honor Mary at our January 25, 2019 Dance with Ed Laudenschlager calling and Mark Johnson cueing.  There will be cake along with our Baked Potato Bar!

The Recycle Sale at the November 2nd Orbiting Squares Dance was a success!  $456 was collected on used clothing, so we took home $228.  This hi-lo dance brought out our New Dancers: Cate Owens, Ashley Kestler and Sara Parks; they were spending money and having fun dancing to Jay Fitch.

Our December Dance is after the Christmas Holiday on December 28th, so the theme is “The Year in Review.” We will have lots of video from Ray Owens, our Media Chair. If you have 2018 pictures, please bring them! We will have a treat with Scott Brown, his son Shawn Brown, and Lisa Minton calling; Chuck Berry will be cueing.

Don’t forget November 23rd (the day after Thanksgiving) is our Turkey Trot Dance!!  Jason Raleigh will be calling and Dave Blaskis will cue.  Come burn off some calories from Thanksgiving!!

And with that, it’s time to say…… get out and DANCE!!

Lynn LeMaster

Wish these dancers a Happy Birthday when you see them in a square!

We had a very nice time on October 26th at our Monster Mash Dance.  Mark Clausing and Chuck Berry did a great job calling and cueing. With 20 guests and 15 members, we had 3-4 squares on the floor most of the night. Marie and Lonni from Hicks & Chicks won the costume contest.  They each received a small bucket of candy and light sticks!  Great job everyone on the snack table. Marcia Taylor and Lois Krull brought dinner on the other table! Fun dancing for everyone.

We will be starting our second session on December 4.  Lessons will continue December 4, 11, and 18.  No lessons on December 25 or January 1.  Class will start back on January 8, 2019.

Well, fall is over & square dancing is in full swing. What a good time we are having! Unfortunately dancing makes you hungry and our food tables need some help. I’m asking everyone who attends a dance or a workshop to please bring a snack. Nothing fancy but we do need more food. Don’t like to cook or have time to cook? You’d be amazed at what Giant Eagle and Kroger’s carry, ready-made and reasonable. Please help our club feed our visiting dancers.

I’d also like to invite all of our members, whether you dance or not, to please come to the dances. Be a greeter or visit with old and new friends. We’ve missed you and would love to get caught up.
