May 2018 Newsletter

Dear Dancers,

We had a small, but nice club turnout for our potluck and Annual Meeting on March 23, 2018.  Ten members, six of whom were Board Members, attended and enjoyed a nice lasagna dinner.  The first item on the Agenda was to announce the Nominees for Club Officers; then the president asked for nominations from the floor.  Two were made.  We voted during the dance as more members were present at the dance.  Club Officers were elected. They are:

President: Lynn LeMasterHospitality Chair:Mike Idle
Past President:VacantCouncil Rep:Dave Van Dyk
Vice President:Sue WilliamsBanner Chair:Paulette Henry
Secretary:Mary BaileyMedia Chair:Ray Owens
Treasurer:Susan Kemp

Sue Williams presented the Treasurers Report:  from March 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018, the club had a net profit of $1,101.30.   The current Treasury is $13,718.69.  The club lost money on the Friday night dances, $-897.19, and lessons: $-18.50; but we made money on the Yellow Rock Dance: $446.20, Recycle Clothing Sale: $178, and had income of $1,575.50 from membership dues.

We are adding a dance to our schedule this summer on Friday, August 10, Jason Raleigh is calling.  This is a Summer Fun Dance sponsored by COCDC.  This is a free dance to all to keep the New Graduates dancing.  All total, Council is sponsoring five Summer Dances, two in June, one in July and two in August.

We are also adding Tools for Schools to our schedule for September 14, 2018.  This is a Charity Dance that we ask for donated school supplies.  This is also our Amateur Caller Night, with Dave Van Dyk as MC.

The next items were dues and membership renewal.  The rate will continue to be $45 for the year and are due May 1, 2018.  The membership renewal form is on the last page of this newsletter. And new this year, you can go to our website – – and pay your dues online!!  There, you will pay $47 to cover the processing fees.

Finally, we need your suggestions on how to make our club more welcoming and fun for new and former members.  Can I hear from you??

Our upcoming May 25th Dance is our Memorial Day Dance with Travis Cook and Phyllis Burdette. Wear your Red, White and Blue!!

Don’t forget, tonight we dance to Dan Austen and Dave Blaskis (a cuer change), for our April Showers Dance.  Bring your umbrellas! We certainly have needed them during April of this year!!

And with that, it’s time to say…… get out and DANCE!!

Lynn LeMaster

Wish these dancers a Happy Birthday when you see them in a square!

We are looking forward to the upcoming 48th Dance-A-Rama in Indianapolis, IN on Labor Day weekend.  Ron Holland and John Cook (Co-Chairmen) have been getting things ready in order to make this year’s festival a fantastic success.  However, we also need your support, so please register and make your hotel reservations at the Westin Indianapolis ASAP.  Pre-registering helps us plan a better dance and guarantees you a room at the dance venue.

Wes Dyer will call the Trail-In Dance on Thursday evening, with Phyllis Burdette, Cathy Fisher and Pauline Angress doing the cueing.  The festival itself will feature a great line up of callers:  Tom Miller, Mike Hogan, Tim Tyl, Tom Davis and Travis Cook. The equally great cuers will be Cathy & Fred Fisher, Phyllis & Doug Burdette, and Pauline Angress.  Doug & Donna Riley will be leading Line Dances, and also will perform at our After Parties on Friday and Saturday night.

Along with the great dancing, we are offering five terrific tours. We will be going out Thursday morning to see the one-room school house in Pittsboro and eating lunch at the Mayberry Café, while we watch the “Andy Griffith Show.”  Friday morning, we will see the Conner Prairie Interactive History Park which depicts life in early Indiana in four different settings in the 800-acre park.  Friday afternoon, we are offering a wine tasting tour, which includes the wine tasting, tour of the Easley’s Winery, and an extensive gift shop where wine and other items may be purchased.  Saturday morning, all you speed buffs can visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Our annual mystery dangle dance will be on Sunday morning, and, of course, the dance locations are a “mystery.”

You can pick up a flyer/registration form from our flyer table or download one at Couples, along with solo dancers, are welcome! Come join the fun! We hope to see you in INDY!

The Board voted at the April meeting to move our Post Office box closer to a member’s home.  As the new Treasurer, Susan Kemp works in Westerville and moved our box on April 24, 2018.  Mail will be forwarded for 30 days.  The number is:  P.O. Box 531, Westerville, OH  43086.
The Ohio Dance Convention is next week!!  It is in Columbus at the Crowne Plaza Hotel North, same location as the 56th Convention in 2016.  The Convention kicks off Thursday night, May 3rd, with a Trail End Dance with Ken Burke, Travis Cook, Tom Davis, and Tom Strickland calling.  Rounds will be in another hall with Phyllis Burdette, Chuck Berry, Glenn Kelley, and Elaine Wintrow cueing.  The Convention starts at 1 pm on Friday, May 4 and runs through Saturday, May 5 until 11:00 pm.  Get up and Dance!!
